                                                                Prez BOB SAYS:

Wow! What more can you say about the muster at Borrego Springs. There were 25 rigs, 43 people,
great weather, and a new location to explore for most of us. What more could you ask for.
We welcomed in three new members to our chapter.
-Glyn and Ethel Scott joined SMART at the National and also joined So Cal.
-Dick and Shirley Clark are long time members of SMART and of CA Warriors and NW Region.
We celebrated the 45th anniversary of Jeff and Carole Steinorth, and the 326th birthday of the Marine
Corps; both with special cakes. The Marine’s even put on a ceremony before providing everyone
    with champaign.
Our chapter meeting on Tuesday was filled with good information from those who had attended the
    National in September.
Everyone pitched in to make this muster a success. A special thanks to:
-Bob Mattison for picking such a good location,
-Bob Bradbury for leading the morning trail walks,
-Suzanne Bradbury for leading the “card bingo” on Thursday night,
-Bev Custer for organizing the Marine Birthday Ceremony,
-Steve Crowder for deep-frying two turkeys ,
-Gretchen Mattison for giving a great briefing on “boondocking”,
-Don Wilkins who set up the coffee mess for all four days,
-Everyone who cooked, served, or did clean-up,
-Gary & Dee who helped Oly and I “Trail Boss”,
-Palm Canyon RV Resort for providing an adjoining room with sink, stove, and refrigerator.
What happened in Borrego Springs is fun with friends both old and new. We look forward to our
Christmas luncheon at end of year and an exciting new year in 2012. May the blessings of the
holiday season shine brightly in your heart and guide you until we meet again.

Vice President & Membership Chairman – Steve Crowder
Steve said he was working on another new member. Jon Katin,
NWRD, said starting in Jan 2012, National was offering 2
years National membership for one year dues IF the member
joined a chapter and was active those 2 years.  Steve said we
were already offering the first year free in the chapter but more
might be needed. There was much discussion.
Gretchen Mattison made the motion for So Cal Chapter to offer
a free muster, either camping fee or muster fee, to possible new
members to get them to come and meet us and decide if we are
what they are looking for. Each case of what is being offered
for free is to be voted on by majority of the board prior to the
offer. More discussion ensued and Gene Krivanek seconded
the motion. Vote was taken and the motion passed.

Muster Master Report – Bob Mattison
-  12 Dec, Monday, at 1130 is our Christmas Luncheon at the
Jolly Roger Restaurant in Oceanside.  Jeff & Carole Steinorth
are hosting and the registration will be in newsletter, via email,
and is on our website.

-  11-14 Dec are the proposed dates for the Unofficial Beach
Group.  This is a make your own reservations outing and
everyone is invited of course.  There are no planned meals but
we always seem to have a great time…minus a time or two
with the weather.  Only 5 RVs are scheduled to go this year.

- 21 Jan is the Unofficial Quartzsite Boondockers. They are at
it again this year from 21 Jan to whenever you want to leave.
This is boondocking time so remember there is no water, no
electric, and no sewer. A “honey wagon” and a water delivery
can be arranged for you. We are camping in BLM land and the
cost is free. It is a lot of fun. If you plan on going boondocking,
let Jeff & Carole know at
JeffNCarole@aol.com so they can
give you the information and lead you to the camping area.
There are also RV parks in town but you must make your own
reservations immediately as they fill up fast. Some will be at the
Rose RV Park and Rice RV Park, both in walking distance
from the activities of the Big Tent and some of the bigger
shows.

- 16-19 Feb is the Unofficial Winterblast trip. It is 4 nights of
amazing fireworks in Lake Havasu City, AZ. We are going to
be boondocking again. If this is not what you want, there are
RV parks in town if you want to use them. Just go to the web
and find what you would enjoy. We will be camping outside of
town but driving in each evening for the fireworks at Sara Park
in Lake Havasu. This is a new trip but should be lots of fun.
Let Gretchen Mattison know at
gretchendm@aol.com if you
plan on going and she will fill you in on the details.

- 12-26 Mar is the Unofficial Puerto Penasco, Mexico trip. It is
2 weeks of sun, fun, and lots of fresh seafood, fresh air, and
the best of company. Cost of trip is your own gas, your own
site fee (reduced group rate), and your own food. If you are
interested, contact Roy Allen at
RoyAllen@juno.com or
Jon Katin at
jonandnancy2@comcast.net.

- 15-19 Mar is the 1st Qtr Muster at Jojoba Hills Resort in
Aguanga. This is an Escapee Private Park about 17 miles east
of Temecula. Cost would be $5 to dry camp and $20 for full
hookups per day, but anyone in a full hookup site would be
away from the group and the sites are scattered throughout
the park. Yes, there are showers to be used. We would have
the Ranch House for our exclusive use and we are invited to
use their pool and spas. There are many retired military and
honorably discharged veterans in the park and we could invite
them to join us in a happy hour. This is a great recruiting tool.
Bill & Sharon Whitaker and Bob & Gretchen Mattison will trail
boss.
